Visit your local Windfarm for Global Wind Day

Carrickatane Wind Farm, Co. Derry

What’s happening: Wind Farm Open Day
Description: ESB would like to offer local groups, clubs, primary and secondary schools the chance to avail of walk and talk tours of Carrickatane Wind Farm.
On the day, ESB engineers will be on hand to act as tour guides escorting groups around the wind farm; from the turbines to the substation, explaining how the turbines actually work, highlighting the need for renewable energy, talking about how wind farms are developed, and answering any other pertinent questions the groups have in relation to wind energy.

Garracummer wind farm, Co. Tipperary

Opening date & time: Wednesday June 14th, 6pm
What’s happening: Community open day and nature walk
Description: Brookfield Renewable are opening up the Garracummer wind farm to the local community.  There will be a short guided walk along a section of the Multeen Way and the opportunity to see inside a wind turbine. All age groups welcome with light refreshments provided.

DkIT - Dundalk Institute Technology

DkIT is aiming to run a Entrepreneurship Summer camp for second level students from June 12th - 16th.
Part of this will include a session on energy and a tour of the campus wind turbine on Tuesday 13th June from ~ 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Members of the public are welcome join the turbine tour from ~ 3pm to 4pm on the day. They just need to  show up at turbine.
Mountluas Wind Farm, Offaly

Free tours for all primary schools children Monday to Friday for the month of June – must be booked in advance by contacting Catherine on      087-1175756. On Global Wind Day, 15th June,  free Tea/Coffee morning at the Mountlucas Centre to celebrate GWD. This takes place from 10.30-1.00pm, no booking required.


County Tyrone Windfarms

County Tyrone windfarms, Inishative and Cregganconroe will be officially launched to coincide with Global Wind Day next month.  The event will will involve local Primary Schools who have been invited to visit the windfarms where there will be a celebration to the launch the two sites.   School children have been working on entries to name turbines at both windfarms.
Meenadreen, Donegal

The official opening of Meenadreen Extension windfarm in Co Donegal, is taking place this June to coincide with Global Wind Day. The event will see local community groups attend and the administrators of the Meenadreen Community Benefit Fund.  Staff will be providing tours of the Meenadreen Extension windfarm site.
