Sponsor:

The IWEA Annual Golf event will take place on Wednesday 5th October in the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank Moriarty for sponsoring this event.

The IWEA Annual Golf event will take place on Wednesday 5th October 2016 in the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, on the Mahony’s Point Course.  Mahony’s Point Mahony’s Point offers spectacular views of the famous Killarney lakes overlooked by the McGillicuddy Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland. The final three holes are breathtaking as you play towards the lake with the 18th described as “one of the most memorable holes in golf”, a par three of nearly 200 yards that requires a huge carry across the corner of the lake. Discover for yourself why the 18th is the most photographed in the world and has become known as ‘Heaven’s Reflex’.

In addition:
• Fabulous lake views on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th holes as well as the 16th, 17th and 18th.
• The 2nd and 3rd are two of the strongest par 4s in golf followed closely by the tough 11th.
• The 13th will leave you mesmerised by the panoramic views of the surrounding lakes.

Pre Conference Cycle

To register your interest in the Cycle, please contact michelle@iwea.com.

IWEA are delighted to announce that Moriarty have kindly offered to sponsor a pre-conference cycle. The proposed route is a challenging one, 100k of cycling over the best of what Kerry has to offer, i.e. loads of climbing, a total of approximately 1045m all told. This is not for the faint hearted!

The plan is to leave the Brehon/Gleneagle hotels and head up Molls Gap to then turn down for the Sneem Road and turn off for Ballaghbeama Pass which is one of the iconic cycle challenges in Kerry. We continue on through Glencar and around Caragh Lake eventually emerging in Killorglin and take the road to Beaufort and finally back onto the Killorglin – Killarney road to bring us back to the start point. The good news is that the last 40k approximately does not involve too much climbing, that means there is a lot in the first 60k!

There will be several coffee stops and a chance to refuel along the way and the route will be sign posted on the day for clarity. We will also have a Broom wagon taking up the rear should there be any mechanicals along the way.

It would be hoped that we would leave at close to 11.00 am as it is anticipated that this will take close to four hours of cycling and there will probably be two coffee stops en route. We will have the option of splitting into two groups possibly as we will have a few local riders joining to show the route etc.

Numbers:
Varying numbers can be accommodated but it would be appreciated if we could get firm commitments in advance as this will make organising easier.

Recommended gear list:
• A bike that is fully road worthy and in regular use.
• Waterproof jacket and full cycle kit.
• Rear red light.
• Water bottles.
