New records set for wind energy generation across Ireland during Christmas 2016

The Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) has confirmed today that new records were set over the Christmas period for wind energy generation across Ireland. At one point on Christmas Eve over 2,800 megawatts of electricity was generated by wind across the island, providing 68% of Ireland’s energy needs at that time.

Indigenous Wind Energy Saved Ireland €70 Million in Energy Imports Since January

Wind energy has saved Ireland approximately €70 million in foreign energy imports since the beginning of 2016, a six month period which saw the indigenous renewable energy source meet over a fifth (22%) of Ireland’s entire electricity demand, according to provisional new figures compiled by the Irish Wind Energy Association (“IWEA”).

We Have The Power to Power Ourselves - Campaign Launched

A new national public awareness campaign has been launched highlighting Ireland’s significant wind and renewable energy resources while shedding light on Ireland’s unsustainable 85% foreign energy import dependency. Entitled The Power to Power Ourselves, the mass audience awareness campaign will feature prominently across TV, radio, digital and outdoor advertising throughout January and will be supported by a dedicated information website – www.windenergy.ie.
